Hello?

yeah, this movie was amazing, and one of he best films I've ever seen......

so where are the posts? I can't believe it's dead here.

This is one of the most boring movie I have ever seen. I love Polanski's CUL-DE-SAC and REPULSION, but this one is awful!

That's because those are considered thrillers. TESS is not a thriller, it's a drama. Plus, I think you have to understand Thomas Hardy and what he is telling us. I also loved JUDE, both the book and movie version with Winslet.

This was truly a great adaptation of Hardy's book. It was, however, very slow moving and one has to pay attention to get the full value out of Tess and her agonies and love.

If you do are looking for a light-hearted movie, this one is not for you.

I 've seen this film lots of times and i believe it 's very good and touching.i 've also watched "Jude" which is an adaptation of Thomas Hardy 's book as well and i liked it very much too.To be honest,i 've never read the books and i would like to ask this:was "Tess of the d' Urbervilles" based on a true story or was it just a novel?Does anyone know?

reply

As far as I know, it was just novel. Whether there was something or someone in particular that inspired Hardy I don't know but the story itself is probably pure fiction.

I love dramas and slow films but this didn't do anything for me. I didn't care about any of the characters. I almost never fast forward or stop watching a film but this time I didn't want to waste another hour to finish it.

This is one of my favourite movies, it's very tragic and sad, but I loved it, it reminded me a bit of Madame Bovary, but different of course. And extreely well done, I loved Nastassia's performance and especially the photography and costumes.

The movie is quite long and can be hard to sit through, but it's worth it. It's not the kind of story that can be crammed into a two-hour running time.
A&E produced an excellent version of "Tess Of The D'Urbervilles" that was a two-part, four hour miniseries. "Far From The Madding Crowd", another Hardy novel, has been made into a film twice, and both run for over two hours. "Jude" is long also, but it's very rewarding for viewers who watch. Hardy's novels seems to bask in the landscape, characters, music and plot which makes it a rich viewing experience.
