Somebody should continue his work

There are plenty of companies trying to continue his work, but with similar results and political obstacles that Tesla faced. There's a company out there called ITEC, they are small, but have an amazing patent that just collects dust. BTW, the company name stands for International Tesla Energy Co. Also, a scientist named John Searl has a magnetics company that probably will never go public...or maybe soon?

Hawking is a theoretical physicist, he is not an engineer. The two are not interchangeable.
Tesla was an amazing engineer and inventor, but he would not have been able to do what Hawking does, and vice versa.

Someone is, the Government.

From what I heard they confiscated all his work after his death, and since then only a fraction of it has been public knowledge. Once we reach Oil-Peak and our other non-renewable energy become scarce we'll be introduced to the world depicted in Tesla's sketches at the end of the movie.

A true Utopia with free, wireless, and infinite energy. A world that only Tesla could imagine. A world that threatens those who have becomes corrupted by greed.

Several people have been working along the same lines as Tesla. It is claimed that some have been silenced over the years.

Other people of note like Col. Tom Bearden, John Bedini, and John Hutchinson, discoverer of The Hutchinson Effect have made some interesting observations and devices inspired by the work of Tesla. Bearden has spoken very highly of Tesla on many occasions and is a brilliant inventor in his own right. These people and many others should be on your "must check out" list. Anyone interested in Tesla will find themselves spending many hours researching the work of these others. Trust me.
