Has Stephen Collins' presence in this movie ruined your enjoyment?

After it was revealed that he was you know, a kid diddler? Especially since Decker has such a predominate role in The Motion Picture. He was essentially going to be along with Kirk, the new co-lead (since it wasn't believed that Leonard Nimoy was going to come back) for the aborted Phase II TV series.

No, not at all

reply

No. I don't know the details of the allegations and I'm not really interested.

Veteran actor Stephen Collins, best known as a minister in the longtime popular TV series, “Seventh Heaven”.

Ironically, his career was already at a point where he was practically in retirement, when the allegations of 3 instances of inappropriate sexual conduct with minors surfaced in 2014 after his ex-wife revealed recordings of Collins having confessed to his acts during a marriage therapy session.

Such revealed acts, combined with the hypocrisy of an actor having played a servant of God, with the credibility of his character’s integrity being key, virtually ended his remaining career overnight, & forever tainted the cache of a very popular show that like “The Cosby Show”, will never again profit from syndication, meaning years of residuals that all of the other actors & everyone else involved with the show, like his co-stars Catherine Hicks & Jessica Biel stood to benefit from, are now out the window as an unfair loss by association. This domino effect of losses from Collins past behavior (including the pain his ex-wife clearly had to endure), makes it particularly unforgivable.

reply

The fact that you feel it necessary to delve into the details of such allegations speaks volumes about you.

Most people simply don't care.

reply

How does it speak volumes about me when Stephen Collins himself, confessed to his wrong doing? And how exactly can you with a straight face, say that "most people" simple don't care, when child molestation is a very serious issue and offense to be accused of?

reply

Wow...9 months for your reply...

Have you any idea how many actors, directors and various people behind the scenes have had similar issues? And yet people still watch the movies.

It's pathetic that you think I am downgrading the severity of the crime, that's not the case at all.

But your assertion that people will stop watching movies because of such things is exaggerated...plus the fact that not a single person has answered yes to your question...

reply

Well for the record, I'm not specifically complaining about other actors, directors, or various people behind the scenes. And it's telling that you don't name any names while making your point. And I didn't say that people will stop watching movies, I asked has the mere presence of a "troublesome" actor like Stephen Collins, made it much harder to enjoy watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

And it appears that you are downgrading the severity of Collins' crime because you appear to be writing it off as "well, virtually everybody in Hollywood does horrible things in their private lives" so you're making much ado about nothing.

reply

And no one agreed with you.

reply

You didn't answer my question about who exactly are these other actors, directors, or various people behind the scenes.

reply

No intention of telling you...you are on the Internet, go look it up.

reply

I'll be your 2nd opinion, it does seem like you are saying pedophilia is no big deal from a high level. I agree with TMC on this one.

reply

It doesn't bother me if nobody agrees with me. My issue is that you seem to act like nobody should be asking such a question in the first place. And then you make a hasty generalization about how people do awful things all the time in Hollywood, so there's little point to be complaining about Stephen Collins.

reply

I never intimated you should not ask the question.

But I did wonder why anyone would ask such a question...what's the motive, what do you expect to gain from the answers?

As has been proven by the response, no one cares. So the question is...why do you?

reply

LOL, no. It's best not to think of such things.

The very nature of the craft means that a significantly higher percentage of performers are pervs or otherwise unstable compared to the rank and file. If we knew 1/100 of what went/goes on in Hollyweird, we'd never be able to watch anything anymore. Many performers most people admire are pieces of s*** despite thinking they are superior and more intelligent than those who pay to see them.

The only difference with Collins is that we now know about it. Should the rest of these performers still be admired because they are as of yet undiscovered?

I have no use for them personally, but I must separate their perversions from their performances.

reply

Exactly. It's best not to get hung up over that stuff.

reply

Good answer.

reply

Let's burn some movies...

reply

no more than it did when I first saw the film.

Update on collins. Looks like he is living a nice quiet life now. Married to a young uber female fan of his.

reply

No. The fact that just about every part of the movie sucks that isn't special effects showing the Enterprise ruined my enjoyment.

reply

No. I can separate art from artist. If I couldn't, I think I'd basically stop enjoying almost anything coming from...well, humans.
