It's an important scene. It's the first time Kirk admits that he is a fish out of water on this Enterprise.

It is, the delivery of those lines were laughable though and the lines themselves are, well, let's face it.. It goes on my camp moments list for this film.

I did find it campy at all. I saw it as Kirk opening up about his insecurity with Bones, who had been complaining non-stop.

Every time Kirk goes, "Spock!" pleadingly I find campy.

The line is rather poor to begin with, and worse yet it's partially repeated when McCoy is insulting Spock and Kirk scolds McCoy, "We need him [Spock]! We need him! Badly!"
