SO underrated it hurts! The late Leonard Nimoy. The visual effects. The wonderful score.

Yeah, once you get past the idea that this isn't Star Wars, its a good movie.

you'd think BY NOW people would know that. seems there's more complainers on this board than ever!

be interesting to see a Venn diagram to see if there's much of a crossover Between people who hate this movie for being "boring" and people who hate Trek '09 for "not being Trek"

Spock has a very nice character arc in this movie. I would have liked to have seen the Decker/Ilia relationship played up a bit more. But I've never been bored watching it.

Of course, my son says that a few people fell asleep during Casablanca in a film appreciation class, so go figure...

Agreed. Stuff like the hunger games and even the abrams crap - that's what gets the high ratings. But at least Alien and some others get warranted high marks.

I am watching this now, probably for the 10th time. Still love the visuals and sense of mystery about it. I love the eerie score the most. They don't make them like this anymore. Well, and Ilia, whom I think still has the best legs this world has ever seen.

Oh yeah, IMO the score and the V'ger cloud entrance is still some of the best visuals ever put on film. I never tire of that scene.

I saw this as a little kid and loved it. I also thought, and was blown away, that it was the longest movie I'd ever seen. Well, that and the tv version of Dune. 3 hours not counting commercials.

I've always liked this film. It felt very "real" to me. Fantastic on the big screen, and Jerry Goldsmith's score, well, what can you say about that? It was music so good they felt compelled to re-use it for subsequent Star Trek stuff.

Love Robert Wise's Director's Edition. The visual effects they added to fill in the gaps, though they employed much-advanced technology, I thought blended in very nicely with the original effects.
