don't watch this if you dislike long, boring, pretentious movies

attention! don't watch this if you dislike long, boring, pretentious movies

This movie was created for those that like to think of themselves as smart but no one else sees it, therefore they need something with no meaning that "only they can understand". Once they have it, they'll splash it in other people's faces, saying stuff like: "oh... you just don't understand it. you don't have the IQ"

LOL what a moron you are. Telling people to not watch a movie. What right do you have to prevent people from seeing something they might like? Why must you always "understand" every movie, why can't you just see the images?

OK! Thanks for the heads up!

I actually had no intention of saying the movie was intelligent until you excreted this comment onto the movie's imdb board. But now that you have, the answer is: yes, you are missing something. And yes, it may very well have to do with your intelligence. There is a reason this movie is ranked as high as it is. Thoughtful and patient viewers will not apologize for your inabilities to enjoy certain movies. I would explain to you why it is a thoughtful movie but you have demonstrated that you are not able to handle that sort of material. I suggest you watch Transformers 3 instead.

Right on stevorino. Apart from the philosophical undertones there are three highly compelling characters in a masterfully shot environment. Technically, with regard to both direction and story, this is a work of HIGHER art, that not everyone who walks this earth has the CHARACTER to appreciate. It's beyond intelligence; it's about your heart and soul--something this film tries to investigate. Maybe you are afraid to do the same.

I've seen many movies that are slow-paced and difficult to grasp, which I liked very much. Stalker is not one of them. I do understand some of the philosophies, and some texts or dialogues are really well written (like the part about the young flexible twig and the hard rigid old tree). I also agree that cinematography is top notch. But all parts together did not make this into a good movie for me. I had difficulties staying awake.

No, some of us developed emotionally after high school, thanks. I love this movie and I don't give a fart in a stiff wind whether other people approve of that or not. I could care less if anyone thinks I'm smart, especially if they make that judgement based on a movie.

I will say that "those who like to think of themselves as smart but no one sees it, therefore they need something with no meaning that 'only they can understand' is neither a profitable nor meaningful audience demographic, and an unlikely place for a filmmaker like Tarkovsky to place his energies -- assuming you bothered to learn anything about Tarkovsky, which clearly you didn't.

So, if you don't want to be thought of as stupid, don't say stupid, thoughtless things.
