Which Version Do You Prefer?

The Ogriginal Banned Version made in 1975 with David Threlfall as Archer or the more commonly seen, 1979 Theatrical version?

I find both work great as a double bill but the idea of Carlin almost forcing the young lad from Emmerdale to sleep with him affected some of his heroicness for mer. It also made the scene where the rape victim tries to confide in Carlin so much colder. I think the film works in a more darker cynical way but ultimately I'm glad they left it out the Theatrical remake. I did prefer the way he holds onto Phil Daniels giving him two whacks with the snooker ball sock instead of one. I wish I could combine parts of both films as some scenes were more striking and powerful in either side.

I think both have merit...I will say I preferred David Threlfall as Archer (no offense to Mick Ford).

I think both versions are good in their own way.

I just finished watching the original 1977 version, now I need to track down the 1979 remake.

I've now had the pleasure of watching the 1979 remake, and I have to say I find the '77 version more raw & visceral.

Also, I liked David Threlfall's Archer a lot better than Mick Ford's version.

I didn't know there was a second, earlier version, as I'd only ever heard of the 1979 film. I really liked Mick Ford as Archer, who was a fantastic character and provided much needed comic relief.

Watch the original '77 version if you can get your hands on it, you'll like that Archer a lot more.

If you buy the special edition, both versions are in there

You are entitled to my opinion, whether you want it or not!!

I prefer the theatrical version because it's much more graphic and hence all the more disturbing due to its unflinching explicitness alone. The rape in the greenhouse in particular seemed too tame in the TV version and thus not nearly as upsetting as it is in the theatrical version.
