David Threlfall vs Mick Ford

Who do you think played Archer best

David Threlfall
Mick Ford

I preferred Threlfall because he is the better actor and portrayed Archer as he was written... a hippy

reply

I prefer Mick Ford in Scum, but I doubt ANYONE can better David Threlfalls 'Frank Gallagher' in the TV series 'Shameless'

reply

Mick Ford annihilated Threlfall. Ford's acting was much better. He brought so many nuances and eccentricities to the role. And I never saw Archer as a
hippy. Only as Ford portrayed him, as an intellectual rebel. Would a hippy read Dostoyevsky?
Threlfall sucked. He played the character in the exact same mode for the entire film. He was one dimensional while there were so many facets to Mick Ford's portrayal. Plus it was impossible to take him seriously because of his ridiculous afro. He looked like Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich.
He should stick to playing drunken louts.

Mick Ford without a doubt- realistic but hilarious for the reasons given

Mick Ford, more polished, and clearer what he was trying to achieve.
I don't know why, but he somehow made the charater more coherent, and gave a balance and reality that Threlfall couldn';t.

Though interestingly Threlfall was offered the chance to reprise the role but was working on other projects so unable to commit to the film.

when did Frank Gallagher play Archer? has there been a remake?

reply

Not exactly, Frank Gallagher played Archer BEFORE Mick Ford did, in the BBC version.

reply

Mick Ford, without a shadow of a doubt. David Threlfall is a good actor, but that isn't his best role by a long chalk.

Mick Ford made Archer one of the key and best characters. David Threlfall's Archer was just another throwaway character.

I gotta go with Mick Ford. He brought a lot of nuance and impudent charm to the role of Archer.
