Longer version of this film

Does the longer version (147 minutes) actually exist? I can only find the 90-minutes-version which is a total mess. With the additional 57 minutes this could be a really good film!!

reply

Me too. The Region 1 doesn't seem to exist. The 90 minute one is rare enough, and I haven't even seen it yet. Don't really want to, as it's a terrible thing to do to a movie like this!

The Original version is #1 on my DVD want list! I'm just hoping it'll get released someday soon. Or even if somebody with a Region 2 would make some DVD-Rs from it.

reply

I'd sell my body for the full-length version of this film, but sadly, no one's buying.

Region 2 (PAL) has a double feature dvd of Just A Gigolo, with the UK version of 101 minutes and a German version of 95 minutes. I just rented it.

Not only the languages are different, the first 8 minutes of the English version is toned in sepia color, while the German version has that same material (Bowie on the battle field) in normal colors. And some scenes and sequences are slightly re-arranged, as far as I can see.

I remember having seen the 140-somewhat version on German television years ago, and remember finding it to be a rather long stretch.
Now watching the shorter versions, it is a strange and interesting movie with grand actors (lovely Sydne Rome, idol David Bowie, Marlene Dietrich in her last role, an older and still beautiful Kim Novak, as well as the director himself - sixties movie star David 'Blow Up' Hemmings).

"Being lost in a film is totally fine."

reply

There may not be. After the film was released, it was pulled from theaters. Director David Hemmings then recut the film hoping it would do better but that was not to be.

reply

Not on it's original Video/Laserdisc release. The Laserdisc German edit (with Japanese subtitles) ran 104 mins. The Laserdisc English Dubbed edit from 1989 was 98 mins.

reply

I found a 141 minute version and it's good quality.

Pray tell where!

Are you sure?
