Why is this movie with its all-star cast and splendid comic timing not available on DVD?
Is this a rights issue?
I want this movie on DVD. I want to put my projector in the back yard and shoot this movie against my garage wall in its original aspect ratio in glorious full color mono sound and all.
What's the hold-up?

Well I bought the VHS about 10 years ago and I just watched it again. It is great and I agree, I wish they would release it to DVD. Just hope they do it soon.
shareI was told that since the company that put out the VHS version (CBS video) is no longer around, there is no way to get the rights to this film until the rights revert back to public domain. All I can suggest is to do what I did, and many others have done, and burn it from the VHS tape to a disc.

The film is owned by Twentieth Century-Fox. It was just distributed by CBC video way back in the VHS/Beta days. So, lets all email Fox and get it out on DVD. Funny, funny stuff!!
shareIn 2009, this movie will be 30 years old. If there are any copyright issues that have prevented this from being published, they'll disappear after the 30th anniversary. Look for a DVD in 2009, or shortly afterward. Sell your tapes before they become worthless.

i just got in on dvd. i went to dvdsclassic.com and they had it! i'm freaking out! i just got it last night and watched it! i'm so excited! i'm telling everyone. it was good quality and was sealed, brand new!

I went thru dvdsclassic.com a few months ago and bought a copy for my mom. She said the picture quality's great, though there are no special features.

With all the junk on dvd, it is difficult to believe that this one can't get released, especially given its cast. Pretty easy to market this one.
