Me or Harlem Eagle?

Well, Peele has made 2 horrors in 2 years, which have been well received. I haven't seen them yet, but there is no reason this wouldn't go well, also

Wasn't it also remade in the 90s as a TV miniseries or something? I think I remember seeing that.

reply

Think it was in the 2000's. Yeah, Donald Sutherland was in it and Rob Lowe. Kind of sucked IMHO.

reply

I hope it at least makes an effort to follow the novel. Neither the 1979 series nor the 2004 effort were too good in this regard.

reply

Hi Gary are you the same Gary from the old Imdb if how's it going. Is stones78 still around

reply

Well, hello there!! I am indeed the same Gary that the board on IMDb learned to love/hate. I'm doing all right, got married, and had a device surgically implanted that enables me to hear a a lot better. Hows about you?

I haven't heard from many of the old group. Stones78 is among them that haven't shown up here. I wish more of them would be with us.

It's good to see you here.

reply

I'm doing well congratulations on the marriage and that's good news on your hearing.
I was thinking about our old Message Board last night and decide to come and look here. I do most of my Salem's Lot chatting on Facebook now is a couple of really good groups one even has Ron Scribner as a member

reply

Thank you!!

My better half does FB a lot more than I do, as I am fairly busy writing. I have one story that I am working on now about a group of terrorists that are wreaking havoc in the USA, and as soon as I get the rough draft done, I edit it and when the corrections are done, it goes to the copyright office and as soon as that's done, I put it on kindle.

When that one is on kindle, there is an old MS that I'm working on that deals with the supernatural. That one has been simmering on the back burner for a long time, I completed the rough draft about fifteen years ago and have worked on it intermittently in the intervening years, but that one will get a lot more attention when I put the terrorism story on kindle.

There is also a group on FB devoted to the King novel, The Stand. That one is not too active at the moment.

reply

Glad to hear you're writing is coming along so well very exciting news. I have never seen the stand page on Facebook I will look it up are you a member there? The Salem's Lot pages are hopping all the time

reply

I'll PM you the group address. It was formed when IMDb took the boards down.

reply

Oh no. They've made a few remakes in the last 40 years. None really match the original TV movie from 1979.

I'm aware of one remake for SL (the one in 2004) but I don't know of any others. Can you please provide details?

reply

There was Return to Salem in 1987 which was sort of a remake because it covered old ground. Then there was another mid 1990s..

There is nothing about it on IMDb.

There is also nothing about any future re-makes either.

reply

It may interest you to know that stones78 has just joined this website.

reply

did you read my "Cully" post? Always interested in your thoughts.

reply

Hopefully it doesn't stick too closely to the novel. I thought the bit about the house and the town were interesting but the story itself is just a ripoff of Dracula obviously. The title is the cool part of that book.

reply

It’s not really a “ripoff” of Dracula as much as it’s an inverse version.

reply

Hadn't read the book but honestly didn't think much of the original miniseries. The house's design and the vampire(s) look neat. But it's not that scary. People's nostalgia-goggles are getting foggy.

reply

It's not that much shorter than It, I wonder if we're in for another two-parter? I hope not, I think it works better as one feature, but maybe a long one, say 2 and a half hours. It can be done if it's by someone who does it right. I feel like James Wan might ruin it though. Yes he's commercially successful and his movies have fun and good points, I just feel like they have that modern studio glossy feel on them which isn't right for 'Salem's Lot

reply

It's such a great scary novel, this might be a case where a remake is welcomed

2 and a half hours sounds fine, I'm in

reply

Being a skeptic, I checked IMDb, and there is a listing for an apparent remake. My wish is that it follows to novel closer than the 1979 and 2004 versions.
