the california

As far as I know, this is the only Titanic movie that makes any reference to the California.
I know that some are sympathetic to Capt Stanley Lord and believe that he is being unfairly blamed. Is this why no filmmaker has been brave enough to include references to the other ship that was sighted by people on the Titanic?
Even if you don't believe it was the California that was sighted, it seems odd that no one ever remarks on the incident.

Oops. I forgot the "n" on the ship name. Thanks for the reminder.
When you say "Titanic 1997" which movie are you referencing?

Really? They referenced the "Californian?" I didn't remember that, but I only watched it once. Guess I'll have to rent it again and really watch it this time.

In A Night to Remember, you see Phillips telling off Evans on the Californian after he cuts into his signal. Afterwards, Titanic's officers are desperately trying to raise the ship they can see on the horizon to no avail.

Meanwhile, officers on Californian are speculating why a big steamer would be firing rockets like that.

Officers on board the Californian testified that they saw a large liner about 20 miles away. It was steaming up fast then suddenly stopped. Shortly thereafter it began firing rockets. The officers attempted to signal the vessel by morse lamp, but got no response. When Titanic took the final plunge it appeared to the officers on the Californian that the ship was steaming away.
