Which is better? the original dubbing or the new dubbing?

Personally I like the original dubbing coz the dialogue seems believable. Lupin(or Wolf as they say his name in this version) has better lines along with Gegan and the samurai dude(forgot his name). The voices suited them more too. I hated the Inspector's voice in the new dubbing. It was so out of place. Well thats what I think. What about you?

The original dub does have more polished acting, and no profanity.

The new dub is considerably more faithful to the original dialogue, even if it has been sprinkled with unnecessary cuss words.

One thing I like the new dub for is David Hayter doing Lupin's voice:P

I grew up watching original dubbed version so I am more towards the original version.

Some of the jokes are better and the acting seems better.

Some of the lines are more memorable.

The original dub all the way for me. I own both and almost never watch the newer one. I dig out the old VHS player and watch the original.

I saw this movie first yesterday and had no idea that there exist two dubs. From what it seems I saw the old one (it was on YouTube) and imo it was fantastic, I really thought it was a fresh one as I´ve heard that old american dubs are not that good.

That said there is also to add that even the old version had curse words. Like, they often start to say "You son of a b..." but then stop. I don´t know how the new version handelt it, but it did not bother me in the old one as they behaved very polite in the rest.

Also, I LOVE the voice work in the ´92 version!!!!!

The first dubbing seems much more spry with Goemon cracking jokes instead of his usual detached introspection. Also there's more reason for Lupin to aid Clairesse in that the original english dub said as a child she brought him food and water all the time he was recuperating from his failed heist at the castle. The new english redub has her only bringing a single glass of water...nice gesture, but not enough reason to risk life and limb for her.

Ah sweet, glad to see many people liking the first dub. Pretty much share the same reasons as all above.

Okay. So I'm new to Lupin...so go easy on me, haha.
I watched the newer dubbed version on Monday...I had no idea there was an earlier version, it was the only one I found (on Netflix).
Then I came on here afterwords and saw this discussion and I felt stupid for not watching the original dubbed movie.

SO...I went on Amazon and bought the VHS, lol.

Okay, here's my thoughts...

I can't really decide on which one I prefer more. I didn't grow up watching this movie, so it's new to me. There's good things about both dubs though.

In the original I like some of the voice work (except for Lupin) better than the newer one. The voices seemed to fit most of the characters. I also liked Clarisse better in this version. In the newer one she seems really timid and very damsel in distress-y, where in this version she seems to be a smart girl who's just in a bad situation. The relationship with Lupin and Clarisse was different too. I felt Lupin wanted to help Clarisse because she took care of him way back when, whereas in the newer one I felt he actually liked her.

I also liked the dialogue in some places. Some things that confused me originally and it played out better in this version.

The only thing I really didn't like was Lupin's voice. He kind of sounded nerdy, lol. I dunno...lol. And Clarisse was really weird at the end...telling everyone she loved them and then being keen that Lupin would come back because "he's my knight in shining armor." Okay. Have fun with that.

Now onto the newer dubbed movie.

I liked Lupin a lot better, I'm not sure if it had to do with the actor or not? He seemed to have better lines, more snappier and funny.

I liked the relationships between the characters in this one better. Like I could tell Lupin and ...his sidekick...I'm sorry, I can't remember his name...anyway, I could tell they knew each other well thieving wise and everything.

I liked the Lupin and Clarisse chemistry better in this one. I loved Clarisse calling him "My thief," and "Mr. Thief." I also thought it was really cute when Lupin would say, "You must have faith in your thief!"

I know that's what some people hated about this version though, that Lupin was too sweet and romantic, when in the TV Show and the other movies he's not like that at all.

Umm....I dunno, I can't really think of anything else at the moment.
I liked both versions, don't really have a preference.
