If i were Rankin and Bass, I wouldn't have allowed my name on this!

My 3rd grader took this out from the Library.

I looked at the box, and I was surprised that I had never heard of this. Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass. Music by Johnny Marks. Starring Ethel merman, Red Buttons, Micky Rooney.

Wow, this was really going to be good.

So, My 4 kids (ages boys:9 and 7 and girls:6 and 4) and I sat down to watch this a couple nights ago.

It became almost embarrassing to watch. I think my 9 year old didn't want to admit he didn't like it, but I know the girls didn't like it. My wife stopped in for a little while in the middle and she glanced at me with one of those looks (where did this monstrosity come from?)

After all the good things Rankin and Bass put out, why oh why did they ever allow their names to be put on this?

It's certainly a step down from their older works, but it has a certain charm to it. Personally, I enjoy the plot. It really feels like a sort of finale to the Santa, Rudolph, and Frosty movies, and does a good job connecting them. I guess my main problem is that the songs are just awful, minus the ones that aren't original.

However, I can understand why a lot of people don't like it. It's certainly not a normal Rankin/Bass special, and that could ruin it for some people. I have a soft spot for it, but that's just me.

They "allowed their names on it" because they created, directed and produced it. They had full control.
