rock band cover of 'The Rose'?

Does anybody know if a rock band ever did a version of the song "The Rose"? I heard a song in a store and it was being sung by a guy and the harmonies were real tight. It sounded to me like Boston or Kansas doing the song. At the time I didnt know what the song was called. A couple of weeks later I was in another store and heard a song which sounded like the one I heard a couple of weeks before and I could tell it was Bette Midler singing and I found out the song is "The Rose". The question I have is did a rock n roll band ever do a cover of this song or am I getting confused on a similar sounding song?

Or you could maybe try " Me First And The Gimme Gimme's" they're a punk band that cover old songs..

I'm only guessing, but it could've been Reo Speedwagon too.......

Conway Twitty had a hit with his cover of "The Rose" with Warner Bros. Records in 1984 (I believe). While he was a country singer, the arrangement is definitively pop-rock, and the harmonies are extremely tight.

However, years of smoking turned him into a baritone by that point, and so his voice was low. Also, he spoke the opening lines of the first verse rather than sing them with the melody being played in the background by a flute.

Wikipedia has a list of all the covers here:

The one you describe sounds like the "Boy band" version by Westlife.

Mudhoney's cover of it is interesting.
