on DVD at last

A DVD pressing of this magnificient piece of animaation has been released in France a few weeks ago.
Two DVDs : first with the film plus a documentary about Paul Grimault, second one with Grimault's other animation work, including the feature-length compilation "La Table Tournante".
Zone 2, french language ("le roi et l'oiseau" also has a dutch soundtrack"), no subtitles. All in all splendid work, with a good remastering of both image and sound.
In case you're nowhere near France, companies such as amazon.fr and alapage.com will ship it to pretty much anywhere.

Yes, this release is superb. Glad to live in a french speaking country... :-) Not only "Le Roi et l'Oiseau" is a superb movie, and a corner stone for french animation, but the extras, and especially "La Table Tournante" allowed me to discover the previous and wonderful work of the late Grimault and his team.

When and gimme the scoop behind this film. Is it great?

I've been waiting for this release for so long.. but since I'm from Finland, I really wish it had had at least English subtitles. The same goes for Jan Kounen's Dobermann. What is it with French and their limited-language releases? :( *disappointed*

I agree, why limit this stunningly beautiful release to a French-speaking audience? Subtitles would have been a GREAT plus... I am from Chile and bought the DVD through Amazon France. Why have the producers of the DVD not realized that this is very easy to do these days?

If any one want to know how to obtain this film in a good english dub on an all region DVD, contact me.

Well - how?

Le Roi et l'oiseau does not have an English dub. Only La Bergère et le ramoneur has one. If your DVD/video of this film is in English, then no matter what the title on the box is, it must be the unfinished, 1952 version, La Bergère et le ramoneur.

But more importantly, I've only just noticed this on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roi-lOiseau-REGION-NTSC/dp/B00029QRQK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1201045281&sr=1-1

According to that page, it has English subtitles. Can anyone confirm this?
