I emailed studio canal and they said that this film is, at last, scheduled for a UK release on dvd in October 2013 :)

shareProbably due to the recent restoration. Still sucks for the English speakers though as we French are naturally getting a superb blu-ray set.
Drop it like it's legal precedent!
You're more than right. I checked and it seems the version being released may or may not be the restored version and the blu-ray version released in France only has french audio and subtitles! The disc has gigs of space and they can't even put a foreign language soundtrack on it? Pathetic and, quite frankly, lazy.
shareI just saw this at the Stratford Picturehouse in London, with American voice acting! (Except for the villainous king, who had an English accent, naturally)

On this page ^ it says "starring Pascal Mazzotti and Jean Martin" which is obviously wrong, as the movie was dubbed.
The types of voices and their intonations didn't sound modern to my ears; I'd place the performances in the 1960s or 70s. (The king to me sounded very much like Gene Wilder, though i doubt it was him).
Sadly, the credits at the end made no mention of the American actors, only the French originals.
It's a tremendous movie, very reminiscent of the very early days of film short animation, especially the bumbling police characters. Absolutely wonderful.
