UK (english language) release news.

I emailed studio canal and they said that this film is, at last, scheduled for a UK release on dvd in October 2013 :)

Probably due to the recent restoration. Still sucks for the English speakers though as we French are naturally getting a superb blu-ray set.

Drop it like it's legal precedent!

You're more than right. I checked and it seems the version being released may or may not be the restored version and the blu-ray version released in France only has french audio and subtitles! The disc has gigs of space and they can't even put a foreign language soundtrack on it? Pathetic and, quite frankly, lazy.

I just saw this at the Stratford Picturehouse in London, with American voice acting! (Except for the villainous king, who had an English accent, naturally)

On this page ^ it says "starring Pascal Mazzotti and Jean Martin" which is obviously wrong, as the movie was dubbed.

The types of voices and their intonations didn't sound modern to my ears; I'd place the performances in the 1960s or 70s. (The king to me sounded very much like Gene Wilder, though i doubt it was him).

Sadly, the credits at the end made no mention of the American actors, only the French originals.

It's a tremendous movie, very reminiscent of the very early days of film short animation, especially the bumbling police characters. Absolutely wonderful.
