"Take her to the zoo. I hear r---- like the zoo."

After all these years I never caught this until just now. Gazo's driver in Rocky I told Rocky the above quote, then the second movie opens with Rocky taking Adrian to the zoo to propose.

I don't recall anyone mentioning this, or at least I never heard it. Not sure why it took 40 years to 'click' lol

I always found it ironic, obviously an inside joke but Rocky himself probably would not remember the guy said that.

reply

Yes. That's how I see it too.

Balboa could’ve been confused, he was just learning to spell “zoo” and improve his reading skills...

reply

He may not have realized the guy was making fun of him and Adrian.

oh my goodness, that guy driving around tony sounds so funny, i find that line is so memorable i connected right away in this second movie and thought "he took her to the zoo", but i agree, he had probably forgot it (after all he says himself he's got a "relaxed brain", another line i've never heard elsewhere), rocky isn't a mean or sarcastic guy, and think of it this way, they both seemed to like animals, rocky has turtles at home and is crazy about his dog and adrian works in a pet store, now mickey was less considered about the turtles: "what the hell are those? they make great soup". there are at least two threads (including this) about this zoo part on this board. the scene with rocky and tony in the gym seemed cut, as if it were an extended conversation they decided to drop. bit odd how tony keeps returning, after all he seems to have only a minor part of the story early on in the first movie.
