Do they really do this in Philly?

...standing around garbage can on fire, and sing Doo-Wop songs late into the night?
Because the Rocky films will have you believe that this is a common past-time.

That was something more prevalent on the east coast during the 1950's-1960's. I don't remember people still doing that in 1979. I think it was a way just to shoehorn his brother Frank Stallone into the movie.

they even alluded to it in Rocky V, where Frank Stallone doesn't appear.... During the street fight, there's a quick cutaway to a reaction shot of some stand-ins at the ol' firey garbage can.

I don't know, but I reckon it added a nice bit of charm and atmosphere to the movie. I really like that song he sings - Frank Stallone has a great voice.

Imdb message boards - kick someone's ass on the first day, or become someone's bitch.

I was watching it and thinking just the same. I would love it if there was guys like that kicking back and harmonising together around a fiery dustbin.
