shareI don't think the director in the commercial scene meant the "you can't read" comment literally. Rocky doesn't read very well, but he's not illiterate. And for all we know, he could be dyslexic (which wasn't really diagnosed back then).
shareHe clearly could read. It showed him mispronouncing words, which he couldn't even do, were he illiterate.
As you said, he didn't read WELL. Especially out loud and with the timing required to pull off a decent commercial.
I always wondered, in this movie, why he wasn't approached by other ad agencies with producers who were a little more patient.
