The one REALLY bad scene

When the recreate Rocky running thru the Italian market and then all the kids start running with him. The next thing you know it turns into every single kid in Philadelphia is running down the street.

It just ruins the scene in the first movie by recreating it in the second and going with all 'Disney' with it.

He's like some weird boxing pied piper, leading the children to a road traffic accident.

I grew up in Philly and if you know the city, he started running near from his house in South Philly, then ran like 6 miles up to Kensington and down like another 4-5 miles through Center City... by the time he dragged thousands of kids to the Art Museum, it would have cause major traffic disruptions and chaos all over!

reply

Agreed. Also grew up in Philly. I always grumble about that scene. I read an article once where the writer plotted it out. I think it was around 21-22 miles in total.

Also irritating from a logistics standpoint? The ride to the hospital in the opening. Over the bridge from the Spectrum - fine. Then they're going up and down Market, then they're on Broad approaching City Hall, they circle City Hall, end up in front of Suburban Starion, then it's like a dozen blocks back to Pennsylvania Hospital. Not the most direct route!

I agree...the scene suffers from forced cuteness. Even "Gonna Fly Now" sounds like it's sung by kids.

When he starts sprinting away and the last kid chasing him can't catch up, that's one of the best scenes in the movie I think. I loved the entire training montage Rocky II (the two of them). It was the coolest thing about it (along with the end fight).

Acting like you some one-man GPS

reply

Yeah, I didn't mind it all that much, but it's my least favorite montage. I love the fourth movie of Rock running up the mountain the best even more than the first film of him running alone up the museum steps. Let me hear "Hearts on Fire" any day over Gonna Fly Now (which I like btw).

reply

Yeah Stallone overdid it with that scene. Maybe Rocky having a handful of kids trying to keep up with him would be cute. But it becomes ridiculous when he ends up having hundreds of kids running with him. Still an awesome film overall though.

reply

I love that scene. I find it very moving how the kids are inspired by Rocky.

reply

Yeah me too. I loved the contrast of how hardly anyone cared at all when he did his run in the first movie and then having it turn into a full-blown parade in the second film.

reply

Yeah lol I agree. It was far too many kids.

reply

Too many kids = too boring
