I think the remake would work...

If they got the Black Lips to do it.

Actually, a while back, Howard Stern was slated to either direct or produce a remake.
The project even had it's own IMDb page, but after the idea was scrapped due to lack of general interest (and upset fans of the original), the IMDb page was taken down.

On July 31, 2008 it was announced that actor/writer Alex Winter had been hired to script a remake of the film for Howard Stern's production company.

Never heard of the Black Lips.

I can bring whole cities to ruin, and still have time to get a soft shoe in.

reply

Hey cool that you guys know the Black Lips! I love them but I don't think they have the crazy fast energy that the Ramones. They're just kinda stoned all the time.

Be Your Own Pet would be a good band for a remake!

reply

Nah, Guitar Wolf already has their wonderful Wild Zero, they don't need to be in the remake. I can't think of any modern punk bands to fit the bill.

reply

Nope. This movie is great because is all Ramones. WE get to see them in a relaxed setting which is even more enjoyable now that two of them are lost to us. But the Ramones music so captures the merger of punk and beach music. that is why its so fun and perfect for a movie like this. No band has attempted this merger so the Ramones own it exclusively. Don't put another band in there. It will only make us miss Joey more.

You mean three. Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee.

reply

I agree that a big reason the original works so well is because of the Ramones, but it's also because of the great cast of character actors having a fun time being in a goofy movie.

And don't forget that the Ramones were not as well-known as they are today when they were in this movie. Of course for the remake they will get a famous band to be in it because it will mean more $$ at the box office, but it has a chance as a quality film if they find a band that is lesser known, or maybe even completely unknown, and treat them in the movie as if they ARE famous. This aspect of the original is what made it fresh, original and exciting, rather than an attempt to cash in on a well-known band.

i honestly dont think that any band could take the place of the Ramones in this movie. i love the original movie. i doubt a remake would be any better

reply

The Donnas.

It would be heavenly.

Yeah but more than likely they would ruin a classic movie like this and instead of The Romones being in the movie they would have some other music group but like who though for the remake?

I hate remakes and I am not too crazy about this move at all to do a remake of this!

A remake would work if they got someone to play the parts of the Ramones as the Ramones. Joey would be hard to cast but possible. If the songs were re-recorded, they would need to be true to the originals. Also, I would love to see Parker Posey or (maybe) Kate Hudson as Riff Randell.

I think that they could do a version with a newer band like Avenged Sevenfold and dedicate it to the Ramones or something. I know I'm probably going to get criticized for this, but it might work. It does bother me that a lot of people my age(middle-high school) don't appreciate music like the Ramones made, since they are my favorite band.

Hark! I hear the cannons roar! Is it the king approaching?

The Queers

Amen to that.

reply

No other band would work!!

reply

Damn straight you'll probably be criticised for it :P But each to their own with regards to music tastes.
Avenged Sevenfold wouldn't really work as they don't quite have the energy to fit a movie like this. In fact, very few modern-day bands have the energy of The Ramones.

If they were to remake this movie shot-for-shot, they could use a Ramones tribute band (or a supergroup tribute band?).

If they were to use a different band altogether, the closest I can think of is Municipal Waste (one of the only modern bands I can think of with a similar mentality to the movie).

Keep in mind that to remain true to the original they'd need a band that can't act at all. Which has influenced my suggestions, I reckon Municipal Waste would give the film a very Troma feel, and we'd probably end up with Class of Nuke 'em High, minus the mutants. (note: in Class of Nuke 'em High, the mutants are referred to as "cretins" - Cretin Hop, anyone?)

your right, no the part of being criticized and im the guy to do it.

Avenged Sevenfold are you on fvcking drugs???
oh no, your just one of the many middle high school kids with zero concept of tatse. on what planet are the ramones and avenged sevenfold even said in the same sentence? does anyone who's not a full blown retard listen to avenged sevenfold??? seriously you have balls for even suggesting them. that or your a giant troll and i took the bait.

and by no means am i a ramones fan. matter of fact i dont even like them i hate them.

reply

I frequently use both bands in the same sentence. Though, it's usually "The Ramones are one of the best bands ever, unlike Avenged Sevenfold.."
