Hilariously bad!

Atrocious script, pathetic story, dodgy 'science'...but entertaining for its apparent inability to do anything right. It also makes you glad that George Romero is still around to show that zombie films can be made well.

And praytell... what was wrong with Land of the Dead? Okay, go ahead call me a Romero fanboy -- but I would easily say Land of the Dead was just as good as Dawn of the Dead (1977), and certainly better written and conceived than Day of the Dead, which wasn't bad... but wasn't that good either IMHO.

And certainly any of those films beats the living snot out of ANY Italiana wannabe Zombie film. Fulci/Dargento whatever!

Just my two cents

Mike

Mike, you are an idiot..

You must hate Romero to like Land better than Day. Anyone who hates on Day but likes Land isn't a Romero fanboy, that's for sure.

And how the hell is Zombie or Zombie Holocaust a ripoff of romero? The only similarity is zombies, that point of view would make Romero a ripoff as well as he didn't invent zombies, he only made them great.

I was raised on zombie films. NOTLD is my favorite zombie movie followed by Dawn, Day, and recently Diary. Also up there are the italian movies. Land of the Dead, however, is not.

"but I would easily say Land of the Dead was just as good as Dawn of the Dead (1977)"

We all have our own opinions, but that's just *wrong*.

reply

I agree with the other poster actually. Day was not very entertaining, Land I at least got through in one sitting. Plus I found LotD's political symbolism far more interesting than DotD's ham fisted science debates.

People think it's cool to hate on land for some reason, but it was actually pretty solid I think... definitely better than the last 2 of Romero's zombie movies (Diary and survival)

Zombie (lucio fulci) is by far, the best zombie movie ever.

Cujo, how dare you tell people what should or shouldn't be their favourite zombie movie. Why are so many *beep* on the IMDb?

what about the tombs of the blind dead series?
though they may not be the best, still one has to admit that they are great films.
also day vs. land - both good movies, but i have to give it to day of the dead. there was too much CGI in land for me.

one more thing - zombie was a great movie, though fulci's city of the living dead was better

reply

I like the first Tomb of the Blind Dead, but I thought the sequels were disappointing.

I think Zombie Flesh Eaters is better than City. City had great build-up but the ending was too quick and not very exiting. When they finally found the priest there wasn't a fight. They just drove that stake through him without any problem, and then all of his friends started burning up while standing still. And then too top it all of a last scene was added that was just confusing and not needed.

As for this movie I thought it was pretty entertaining, but not one of the best.

Greatest zombie films ever:

The Evil Dead
and
Redneck Zombies

reply

CaptainAlexReilly - I`ve got bad news for you:The Evil Dead ISN`T a zombie film, it`s a demonic possession film. I collect zomflix & The Evil Dead trilogy (& recent remake) is on seperate shelves to my zomflix, along with Demons 1&2 & Flesh For The Beast (OCD? Not at all - just extremely pedantic).

i do agree that it is hilariously bad but very entertaining. it's become something of a cult hit these days. kind of strange that the storyline didn't involve zombies but deal more with the cannibalistic tribe from keto. i mean yes there were a couple of zombies but they didn't do much in the film except scare people and walk around the island very slowly more like creeping up on people. the gore was very good for the day. all that gut munching and how it was shot on film was quite good.

It's definitely not as good as "Zombie", but I still find it immensely watchable and Ian McCulloch and Donald O'Brien over nice, solid performances.

I love to love my Lisa.

reply

I gave it a 3. I thought it was atrocious, but with a few really funny moments..... First of all there was the cannibal doctor, who jumped out the window and the dummy they dropped that was meant to be his corpse loses an arm as he descends and then there was the bit where Peter kills a zombie with a motor to its head. Lol. Peter was my favourite character as well.
