Fulci rip-off !! *SPOILERS!*

As much as I enjoyed this 'so-bad-it's-good' zombie flick, I couldn't help but notice very obvious similarities between this and Fulci's 'Zombi 2'..

Here are just a few of them...

1. They're both set in New York and on a tropical island location

2. The hero, heroine & company all head to the said island(which, incidently, looks remarkably similar to the Fulci location) where something
weeiird is going on..

3.Talking of which, there's a mad scientist resurrecting the dead...

4.Stars Ian McCullough and Dakkar should know better..they were up against the undead ones in BOTH movies

5.The zombies perish in a 'traditional' hospital/church fire at the climax

6.Both movies have a haunting synth score.

Any other similarities I might have missed?

I don't mean any disrespect to either films..they're both great movies (I do actually prefer the Fulci flick, though!)..but I was wondering what you guys thought about this one?

the fulci movie is a much better made film though. the 2:35:1 aspect ratio and the much more interesting shot composition make Zombie Flesh Eaters (Zombi 2) a far superior flick.

but I still like this one. boat motor to the head. ya can't go wrong.

I think the connection is Fabrizio de Angelis as producer of both films. I guess when he made a mint off Fulcis 'Zombie', he wanted more of the same ASAP.

And not only are the locations the same, but a couple of bits of footage are taken straight from 'Zombie', both the burning church and where the camera pans across a lake / river and we see the landrover driving along the side of it.

Well the horror genre is known for rip off films. I don't get why people make a big deal out of it.

I love horror flicks from Italy they are a lot of fun, but at one point they became known for knock off films.

2019: After the Fall of New York, Massacre in Dinsosuer Valley, Eaten Alive (the gore were shots from Jungle Holocaust).

Horror movies all over tend to do that not just Italy, but point is a lot of horror flicks are knock offs. Not a big deal at all.

I am just after watching this movie and I noticed more similarities. The first scene in the island when they are riding in jeep is cut from Zombie Flesh Eaters
( look at that donkey:-D ). Sure the zombies are very similar to Zombi 2 too.

What is Ian McCulloch's first name in each picture?

i agree 100%, this is an obvious Zombie Flesh Eaters ripoff,
They actually use footage from Fulcis movie, a couple of seconds when the green Jeep drives through a little village, then when se building burns in the end of both movies.

Still, i think this is a better movie than Zombie Flesh Eaters tho i´m a huge Fulci fan. however this flic is very entertaining and very gory in all it´s glory.

I just came to the board to see if I was delusional, turns out I am not imaging it, this is a huge Fulci rip off/homage/copy/cash-in. The entire time I watched this, I kept noticing it was a really crappy remake of Zombie Flesh Eaters but with cannibal nurses and tribesmen added in. Even so, I thought it was an awesome movie, even downright spooky and unsettling during the torture/surgery sequence.

Recommended most for people who didn't just watch ZFE recently. If you do, the similarities will be too strong to ignore.

It makes me a little sad there isn't a straight up Fulci cannibal film though, it would obviously have been better than this.

its not a rippoff, they were both shot on the same set and using some of the same actors so it was obviously with fulci's permission, maybe they did it to save money, not a bad idea really shoot 2 movies at the same time.

cwhite1-4 said "its not a rippoff, they were both shot on the same set"

Maurizio Trani said that they were not shot on the same set. But then again he did the special effects and claims he never watched the movie.

I'm not a big fan of this one, though they were smart enough to keep the blonde actress unclothed for most of it.

Marino Girolami has said that Zombie Holocaust wasn't even shot on an Island. He just bought the few seconds of River/lake footage off Fulci (aswell as many other scenes) to make it appear that way.
