'Warmists' must pull their hair out over this film.

Obviously the author of the book this film is based on felt that the world would be entering a new ice age in the future.

If this film were made today, there would be a picket lines outside the theaters
screaming this was 'Denier' propaganda.

You must be watching it right now on FX Movies, just like I am...lol!

In the '70s the 'Experts' were telling us that a new Ice Age was imminent so in context that might explain this movie.

Remember the Time Magazine cover from June 24, 1974... "Another Ice Age"?

Then the global alarmists shouted, "Global Warming!"

Now they can't decide what is going on so it's the generic "Global Climate Change".

How about, "Things Change". Relax, the Earth like everything else does not stay stagnate. The Earth has a biorhythm like everything else.

As for this movie, I know Robert Altman was supposed to be a great director, but this has all the confusion of a drug enhanced dream. And if any of the more "enlightened" (pretentious) people on IMdb would say that "I just don't get it"... ya, you're right!
