So Would you be a Mod Or a Rocker?

How about being an individual instead.

You are entitled to my opinion, whether you want it or not!!

Just saying, the OP missed the entire point of Quadrophenia.

To be honest, this is one of my all time favorite albums, but the movie always bored me to sleep.

And to all the high-minded people parroting "Oh, I would just want to be myself. Blah, blah, blah ". That's a load of crap. Everybody knows that when you're a teen in high school. If you're not in some sort of clique or align yourself with some sort of statement or a fashion, then you're NOTHING with few friends and probably getting picked on everyday. It's a fact, and things haven't changed one bit over the years.

It's sad, but true. And THAT is the point of Quad. The need to fit in. Even if it's detrimental in the long run.

I'm sorry your high school experience was like that, mine was pretty different. I had my choir friends (where I was very popular), my drama friends (moderately popular), metal/ punk/ skater friends (blended into the background), freak/ nerd friends (everyone was pretty equal). I hung out with all of these people to differing degrees, but aside from my freshman year (where I ate lunch alone and read comic books under the stairs, lol), I did quite well without being in any ONE clique!

Although there may be some truth to what you say, it's not like that for EVERYONE.

In response to the OP: even parts mod (more punk), rocker (more metal-head) and hippie (even if they weren't in the film.)

In high school, I was not in any sort of clique, and had no interest in being in one. I paid no attention to popular statements or fashions of the time. I had two close friends, and was perfectly happy with my situation. I was not picked on. I just did my own thing, and couldn't have cared less whether I "fit in". My college experience was much the same. In adult life, I have been happily married for many years. Your theory of teen life is the real "load of crap". It sounds like the plot of a cliched 1980s high school movie, not real life. My condolences if your high school experience was actually anything like that.

"I don't wanna be the same as everybody else! That's why I'm a mod see?"

Of course Jimmy didn't see the irony in this statement.

reply

neither. better to think for youself and not join a clique.

reply

Been a rocker for 35 years and not about to change :)

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

Neither. I'd pretty much be what I am – a nonconformist who doesn't feel the need to fit in with a crowd. But if the crowd wants to fit in with me, it is certainly welcome.

As for the film: Great soundtrack, of course, but I can't say the story was very compelling. 7/10 stars from me.

reply

Rocker. Screw everyone else. PARTICULARLY these pseudoindividualists. Justa buncha WEENIES.

"They sucked his brains out!"

reply

Hear, hear! They are probably typing from their office cubicle wearing a suit.

I would be a mod.

I'd probably be a redneck. It's the one fad that never seems to die out. 

reply

Timeless!
The fashion/mod scene changes every year, the rock scene changes about every 5 or 10 years. The redneck scene has never really changed much at all.

That's true, although thinking on that, I'm not sure if they have rednecks in England. I suppose they must have some kind of equivalent, but different styles perhaps. I did notice one of the Rockers in Quadrophenia sporting a Confederate Battle Flag, although that may have had a different connotation at that time and place.

reply

a Mod, as they as a subculture seemed less prone to violence than the Rockers.
