Yeah, I'm a bit surprised, considering how infamous this movie is, especially today. I didn't really like it, but it was pretty scary at times.

Do you ever monitor how much AMC airs it?! At night sometimes whenever I turn to that channel, I'm greeted by Prophecy. They also played it for the recent Monster Movie marathon thing (can't remember what it was called).

Anyway, I hear they also released a DVD recently. I thought it was a classic B-movie and I'm surprised it got a PG rating.

I haven't watched AMC in a while, but yeah, that was the first place I ever saw this movie. I see a lot of announcements for it, though, so yeah, it does seem that they air it a lot. I believe it's also been on Sci-Fi a couple of times.

The PG rating seems appropriate. Almost all of the killing is implied, not shown. That definitely makes it scary, but not bloody. The most violent scene was the one where the Kataden was mauling the grandfather, and even then, it was from far away and not much was visible.

I was also the first person to post on the C.H.U.D. board.

I've never heard of it.

I saw CHUD back many years ago. Can't remember much about it, except what the letters stand for.

I just saw Prophecy 1-3 this weekend. Enjoyed the original quite a bit, but quality seemed to fall rapidly after that, imo.

Prophecy? You mean with Christopher Walken?

I should just point out that "Dr. Phibes Rises Again" features man dying from a snake bite, a man being crushed by a vice, a dead body floating in a bottle, a man being clawed in the face by a hawk AND a man being stung by A LOT of scorpions. That is rated PG too.

Just like in the South Park movie, it's okay if they don't use naughty words!

I don't understand the PG rating either. The rating system seems to have got so inconsistent now.

Prophecy was rated R in 1979. I just watched it and nothing is cut. Times change. I guess parents must still pay attention to the ratings but, with all this streaming, I can't imagine they make a difference. If a technically astute kid wants to see a movie, they know how despite its rating.

reply

I saw it in the theater at age 11. It was definitely PG not R Rated.
