I saw "Prophecy" as a double feature with the original "Friday the 13th." This film was better by far.
Frankenheimer does a good job keeping the whole thing moving, and the scenes of attack are well-mounted, thus, very frightening. It is an above-average horror film by a guy who knows who to scare the bejabbers out an audience.

Whether you like or dislike this movie depends not on your take on the environmenatal message (negligible, at best) or whether Armand Assante's Indian portrayal is noble enough. No, it'a all about the bear. It's one of the creepiest monsters I've ever seen in a movie, and was certainly more horrifying than watching Betsy Palmer jump the shark in F13- well, sorta.
That grizzly beast (the bear, not Ms. Palmer) had me whistling past the graveyard long after I had seen the movie, the same way I felt after viewing the original "Exorcist." And anyone who gets the crap scared out of him or her from the looks of that bear will not trash this movie, especially if they, like me, saw it with a non-scary, unimaginative, low-budget stinker like "Friday the 13th" which, by comparison, was only good for a few sardonic laughs and some nice boob shots.

Frankenheimer did some good movies this is not 1 of them,Whether you like or dislike this movie depends not on your take on the environmenatal message (negligible, at best)-you could say the same thing about "Highlander 2" it still does not make it better then "Highlander" this movie basically is "Grizzly" just mutated that's the whole movie.

"this movie basically is "Grizzly" just mutated that's the whole movie."

No, that is not all the movie is about, but it is a large part of it, and that is why it is a good movie. Once you look at a picture of a grizzly, then see this horribly mutated creature and consider how much it must be suffering but you are still terrified by it is what really keeps you watching.
Also, the troubles of the Native Americans in the movie keeps your interest. The message of how much man has messed up the earth really makes you think long after the movie is over

This movie was NOT better than the original Friday the 13th. And the bear in Grizzly was much scarier than the one in Prophecy.

If Prophecy had been done exactly like the book, it would have been a much scarier and gory movie. I can't believe the effects in this movie either, I mean you laugh everytime you see the full bear.

I saw this movie as a double feature too, but it was with a movie called Night Wings. About a bunch of bats. I don't remember much of it except the campfire scene. That was an awesome scene. There were like 6 people sitting around a campfire when out of nowhere they start getting attacked by bats. One of them falls into the fire and the other scramble to the van or something. One woman was unable to get inside the van so she crawled under the van and then she looked up and saw the tire spin and it ran over her head.
