Community REALLY needed an arcade

Something tells me that a few pinball machines and Asteroids and Space Invaders machines would've made a ton of cash! OK maybe it's set earlier than the vids came out, but pinball for sure.

I miss arcades.

Well, they needed *something*, for sure. That town was in the middle of flippin' nowhere! There was absolutely nothing to do. What did the adults expect would happen?

I grew up in a small town and when we got bored - we’d build tree forts, ride motorcycles, find an open lot to play football or baseball in. Go for bike rides or play board games or video games. I get teen angst but these kids had no imagination

Somebody, DEFINITELY could have gotten rich with a good arcade... but I don't think it would have changed the outcome for New Granada. I grew up in a very similar suburb in the exact time as this movie was depicted... And we DID have an arcade. We were just as big a punks as these kids

Boredom is a terrible thing. I will agree with that. However, people, including teens, managed to survive for generations before there were arcades, pinball machines, and video games. There are other things to do even in the most boring town.

It would have been a good idea to include some distractions for the young people in the planned community but that's no excuse. Even in towns where they are plenty of the things for young people to do, some knucklehead kids still manage to waste their time getting high, skipping school, rioting, and causing other problems. On the other hand, if you travel to third world countries and the poorest neighborhoods in any country, you'll find kids using whatever limited resources they have to entertain themselves; often in responsible ways.

Don't think it would have helped. It would have been another hangout targeted by the police and parents as a haven for drugs, alcohol, smoking, etc... Unless they dressed and behaved like good little angels, these kids were always viewed as being guilty of something.

then they'd have to get jobs for money
