Now that you mention it, I can see that the casting in Cassavetes movies are not always realistic looks-wise. But they are accurate emotionally and thought-wise. Another quirk that makes his stuff interesting. Such a dreamworld he created!

yeah i hear ya. it didn't bother me and i didnt want to seem antisemetic. and yeah, cass does put the audience in the dreamworld and all that doesnt matter. i consider this film flawless.
but take the whole Jewish thing away, i kinda think it's hilarious that Mr Sophistication from CHINESE BOOKIE would, with that yenta wife, give birth to a hot blonde like Nancy.

Hey, that reminds me, Cass was pretty much always an actors' troupe leader, since even before his first movie when he literally taught actors. Remember that the brother in Shadows turns up in "A woman under the influence"? And all Peter Falk's roles, Gena's, Cassell's, etc? I think that's probably the real reason why he casted roles the way he did. Because he casts the way an acting teacher would cast. He thinks of a juicy situation and then goes through his own phone book looking for people he knows can "hit the notes" which he needs to be hit. I bet you he never held a single audition in his life. AHAAHAHAHA! Oh man, there was and is no one like him....

No need to apologize, you just have a concept of Jews that seems lifted from anti-semitic stereotypes. A large percentage of Jews don't "look Jewish" in the sense you mean and could easily pass for Scandinavian or Dutch, or just white in general. Many have blue eyes (as well as blonde, and especially red, hair) and the idea that they don't is a product of National Socialist propaganda. I assume your exposure to actual Jews is limited, outside of what you've seen in the media.
I'm not accusing you of being anti-semitic per se, but it is a mildly anti-semitic comment on your part. It's all in the wording and implications, as your post basically boils down to: "she's too hot to be Jewish, because Jews are ugly." Even in your 2nd post you claim to "take the whole Jew thing away" and then immediately followed it up with "that yenta wife"; a bit of a disconnect there. Not particularly surprising though, since it started off like "not to be racist, but..." Of course you're well within your rights to feel that way.
