Humour in war films - is there much ?

Most war films Iv'e seen other than "Gallipoli" (which has some black humour)and "The Odd Angry Shot" don't have much humour although "Full Metal Jacket" has some humour courtesy of Joker (M Modine).

Are there other war films that use humour to effect ?

SPOILER.Limited budget and minimal action scenes but the strength of the film lies in the dialogue and some great performances, particularly from Graham Kennedy who`s probably unknown outside Australia.I thought the film was full of humour (*beep* rain") and "gallows" humour which some soldiers use to overcome difficult situations. The scene with a critically injured Bryan Brown is a great example:funny, poignant, brilliantly acted.

I love the comments between Graham Kennedy & the cook about his food, also the gift to the pardre.

I eat Trolls for breakfast. And right now, I'm very hungry!

In "Stalingrad", on a train to the Russian Front, one of the newer German soldiers asks 'does anyone know any Russian?' ...and older sweat answers "You only need to know Stoi! Rucki Werkh!" [Halt Hand Up!]

That's funny....
