English audio vs German audio?

I've only ever seen this in English.. I know they filmed each scene in english and german, but has anyone seen both versions? English seems sort of cheesy and dubbed over.

I think Herzog recommends the german version over the english version. Every scene was filmed in german first, and then re-shot in english, so the german version is the genuine version and has more "magic".

It's a German production. Of course the German language version is much better. Herzog was more comfortable with the German version, and he prefers that one. The English language version seems almost like an after thought..and English doesn't sound right in this, VERY German film..

The film is based upon a novel written by an IRISH author. How is the film so very German given its source and location?

No matter.

It's a German PRODUCTION. It doesn't get any more German than WERNER HERZOG. Or KLAUS KINSKI. The novel might be written by an Irish author, but I wasn't talking about the novel; I was referring to THIS GERMAN FILM. A movie that was filmed with GERMAN audio. That is why the crappy English overdub feels like an after-thought; because it's an overdub, done AFTER the film's completion. I have seen both versions, or I should say I have seen 1 1/2 of both versions because i was unable to sit through the entire movie in it's English overdub format. The original is superior in every way.

While I, too, prefer the German language version of the film, you're wrong to refer to the English version as dubbed. The entire film (dialogue scenes, at least) was filmed twice, in both languages, with the same cast of actors speaking both languages (they're all obviously more comfortable in the German version, but it's nice to have the English option for potential viewers who may not otherwise watch the film). Very little dubbing was done in post production, except where necessary for clarity.
