Tony Romo

Why do a remake, when the real thing happened tonight? Life imitates art.

I came on here to say just that! Amazing. Deja-vu all over again.

Young quarterback of the future mishandles snap on kicking play that determines team's fate in playoffs.

Let the long, bitter off-season begin!

dont't forget that it was a dallas team and that both art hartman and tony romo wear number 9

reply

oh god, as if it wasn't bad enough that they are both Dallas teams - now he even has the same number ! :)

it's gotta suck being Tony Romo right now

reply

I just checked to see if anyone else had picked up on this coincidence. I was at Eastern Illinois U at the same time as Tony and Sean Payton (now coaching New Orleans & named NFL coach of the year) so this season was full of reflected glory, right up until the end for both the Cowboys & Saints. Of course the 'Boys wouldn't have made it into the playoffs if Romo hadn't come off the bench in such a stellar fashion.

The details of 'North Dallas Forty' were also burned into my brain at EIU during this time. Once we got cable in our off-campus residence, we'd watch any cool Showtime movie every time it was on, hence the ability to quote obscure lines from 1979-84's classics like 'ND40,' 'Caddyshack,' 'Superman,' 'Close Encounters,' 'Airplane,' 'Alien,' etc. A second college education obtained outside the classroom.

Neat trivia in the ND40 cast: Dayle Haddon started off in such varied material as Disney's 'The World's Greatest Athlete' and cult soft-core 'Spermula,' and went on to become the spokesperson for Clairol and Revlon. While not exactly a dazzling actress (see Christie Brinkley in 'Vacation'), she had cheekbones to die for, and other things too, according to Joe Bob ... ahem.

This movie is on my all time great movie list....near the top actually.. when Romo fumbled the snap it was the first thing I thought of.

i have been a cowboys fan since the 1970's, and one of the reasons "north dallas forty" is still relevant today (other than tony romo's fumbled snap in '07) is because the cowboys are still relevant.

the cowboys were just as famous for they're partying ways in the 1990's and beyond, and nfl players just as wild off the field now (just watch the sports any random night) as they were 30+ years ago.

the movie dates itself in a few places (ex:players smoking and drinking in the locker rooms), but there's enough up-to-the-minute truth in the way their behavior (on and off the field) is depicted, that it's amazing "north dallas forty" was made over 30 years ago.

Still relevant after 31 years -- this movie stands the test of time very well. A testament to great writing and acting and how our dominant sports culture, despite technology, evolves and changes very slowly.

I know this is an old post.

I never made that connection. There are some slight differences. Hartman was the Bulls backup quarterback. Romo had become starter when he mishandled that short field goal attempt.
