Norma Rae 's father

I am watching this movie now, and haven't viewed it in years. Maybe with the horrible things going on in the world I have become too suspicious, but didn't her father seem to be extremely possessive of her?

I just saw the movie for the first time. I thought exactly the same thing. I was expecting something to be said later in the movie about him having molested her, or something to that effect.
Maybe something was cut from the film, or the screenwriters decided not to finish (the storyline) what they started.
Or maybe I was just reading way too much into what they were saying.

I remember thinking that too when I first saw this film. I have an overprotective dad too, even at age 37 lol, but he was not THAT bad!
I suspect that Norma Rae's dad acted like this mostly because of the 'trouble' her daughter had gotten into, at least in his mind.

Several kids, no husband or even a dad in the picture, living at home.
Plus, I'm fairly certain he knew she was having a 'naughty' affair with a married man & he did not approve...and was 'letting her know' that he knew.

But it just came off as kind of creepy.

When I saw it, I thought it was quite natural for a man, who has no control over his life, would try to exert control over other areas in his life. It's a guy thing. When guys are at their most vulnerable, they tend to get a little bossy and pushy.

You people are hollywood brainwashed, too bad not every film is about incest and molestation to please your vulgar minds.

Her father loved her and was being protective, she loved her father, sheez what trash the americans have become

Bravo for saying that ! People today assume every thing & every one to have some sort of twisted agenda. Just finished the movie - and all I got was a very loving & protective father who's daughter loved him back just as much !

I'm usually not "suspicious" when it comes to these kinds of issues, but, honestly, I first thought he was her stepfather and that he perceived her as something more like a stepdaughter. That scene when he stepped into her bedroom and she's changing clothes before going out was rather odd.
