John Carradine on Nocturna
In November 1984, John Carradine spoke of "Nocturna" in an interview with David Del Valle which was published in "Famous Monsters of Filmland" Aug/Sept 1999. The "nerds" comment is a reference to his son's film "Revenge of the Nerds," which he'd just seen.
David Del Valle: What was your last Dracula on film?
Carradine: Good God, man! I don't think that way. I mean, I played butlers to vampires and gravediggers. Oh, perhaps the disco one with lots of nerds.
DD: That was called NOCTURNA, John.
JC: No, that wasn't the name. It was -- it was DRACULA'S GRANDDAUGHTER, I think. That young woman who produced the film had been a successful stripper and wanted me to be Dracula for her first feature. It was to be the first Dracula film with disco. Historically I must be the first vampire to remove my fangs, dental plate and all! Yvonne De Carlo and I joked around that we were having what can only be described as coffin sex. I suspect she wanted to have something along the lines of the George Hamilton Dracula.
DD: You mean LOVE AT FIRST BITE?
JC: You would know better than I. Still the great film has yet to be made.
