Alternate Ending

The post office loses her manuscript.

since the film ends before the manuscript is delivered... what is your point? whether she is pubished or not has nothing to do with the ending of the movie. if you impute from the post-film note of publication that she turned down sam neil then you are just as far out on a limb as those who impute that she went on to have a wonderful life as a writer. you confuse your own imagination with what the film is telling us. the film offers neither advice nor conclusion as to the rest of her life. how can you miss that? don e.

I think the OP was making a joke. All that work, she gives up Harry, and the manuscript ends up getting lost.

The trivia section says one of the film's major producers was adamant that the story be changed so that Sybylla accept Harold...

Having only read the book, I can't say how the story SHOULD end. It's kind of puzzling.
