One of my favorite films on Jack

This film is one of my two favorites on the murders committed by the Ripper, the other being the 1988 TV movie starring Michael Cain as Inspector Abberline. After watching them I always end up feeling slightly haunted by the theories (and I stress 'theories') that have been put forward by them both as to who the Ripper might have been and the reasons as to why he might have killed these unfortunate women (even though in MBD Holmes' battle to find him is of course a fictional part of the tale). Having read nearly every book and seen every film on Jack, you start to wonder if certain individuals at the time of the murders knew more then they let on and whether Jack really did take the secret of his identity to the grave.

I think the fact that there's never been a definitive solution is what makes the story so enduring. (Well, that and the circumstances of the murders being so atmospheric in most people's minds.)

Over and over, people have claimed they knew who Jack really was -- even the man from Scotland Yard responsible for the case wrote in his notes that he had definitively solved the riddle, though he never wrote down who it actually was ! -- but no proof has ever been established. Sadly, I think it's unlikely at this distance in time that it ever will be. We'll never know for sure !!

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

It was creepy and gory. I loved it!

Hardly gory, and a bit boring.

Yes I must have missed the gore too xD This seemed to me like the first version of From hell, which I like a lot more. Both movies have a lot similiarities.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
