Plot Line Goofs To The First Film

I have all three movies on DVD and love them. That said, there are a few major plot line goofs when related to the first film. In the first film, the family buys land in the mountains to live. They did not know the person who had previously owned the land; however Boomer did. That plot line is kept in the second film. In this third movie, now the land use to belong to Skip's uncle. When did that happen?

And how could the state ranger NOT know the family lived there? In the first film, the family is listening to the radio where the DJ welcomes the family to the area. Also, they are receiving mail from the mail plane. The school board knows where they are; as the kids are now being home schooled. Everyone knows they're living there but the ranger?

I know I am being picky and it is still a good movie. I just hate it when sequels
change the history of the previous films.

They just showed this trio tonight and I completely missed the ending of this. If you're still around can you tell me what happened? Last I knew the ranger told them something about the government was taking the land or something.

The ranger gave them 90 days to find minerals or be evicted. They looked for the minerals but didn't find any. Later the ranger comes back to see if they found anything and when they say no he tells them they have to leave. As he flies away in his helicopter something happens and the helicopter crashes and the family comes to the rangers rescue and saves him.

Meanwhile Boomer goes off in search of Jakes claim to help the family stay. Flora (his donkey) shows up outside the families home making a fuss. The family realizes something must be wrong since Boomer isn't anywhere around and go looking for him. They find his bag outside a mine and Skip goes in looking for him figuring there must've been a cave in and Boomer may be trapped.

After Skip finds him and they get out the kids ask Boomer if he found his gold and he said no but then pulls a rock out of his pocket. It turns out to be mining mineral which they take back to show the ranger. He asks them if they could send him a yearly supply which they agree to because it means they can keep the house.

Hey, thanks for this! I don't think I got a notification somehow, just looking at old posts. I appreciate your time in this detailed explanation of the ending. Thanks again!

No problem. I had literally just finished the movie and was on here and saw your post. Since I had just seen it, recalling the ending was easy lol
