Somewhat disturbing to watch in 2016

I felt that it was sort of disturbing to watch this in 2016.
I love old russian movies, I grew up on them and I simply love the melancholy and the poetry of it all.

But certain scenes, for example when the lead character is trying to get out of sex, and the males force themselves on her in that manner. Or how the film ends with how she is "serving her husband as a woman should". I was dissapointed that her big love that she searched for all her life turned out to be so fragile in his manhood that a woman can't make more money than him, or that he always had to confirm that he is "the man" and makes decisions and this and that "as a man should", and that that it's as natural as a woman making dinner.

The ending was very dissappointing. No moral of the story but simply that they return to the traditional and sexist positions in marriage. The movie builds on very old ideals and norms, which is partly understandable, but at the same time there were movies that came even before this one, and also made in Soviet, that did not portray this outdated view of a relationship.

Did anyone feel the same?
Any other perspectives?

i agree that the ending is terribly disappointing but i did feel the director was expecting us to disapprove of the outcome, don't you think?
