Netflix does not have this available on DVD and I don't particularly like purchasing films without seeing them at least once.

Does anyone know if this is available in any other medium?

You can check your local library or a rental place, maybe one that specializes in foreign films. :-)

One of the Russian movies you have to see, including Idi I Smotri.

You can watch most of Soviet's movies with subtitles by free on site of MosFilm (film studio that produce most of soviet movies, including this one) - http://www.cinema.mosfilm.ru
