Was it just me?. . .
or did those actors seem like they really aged? Does anyone know how long they spent filming this movie? Did they take a long break between acts? Maybe it was just makeup. Maybe I'm crazy. Help.

shareIt was made in the Soviet Union, what do you expect from a foreign film? Steven Spielberg or George Lucas type effects?
share...what do you expect from a foreign film?Foreign? Foreign to where?
This movie was made in the Soviet Union, that's a FOREIGN country. Unless you live in the republics now.

Unless you live in the republics now. Some people do. I am under the impression that you assume everyone here is (North) American, which is, of course, not the case. share
Tye doorak! Translate that :)

<<Tye doorak! Translate that :) >>
I can translate this, but I won't post it here! This is completely irrelevant to the movie and other posts.
BTW,Steven Spielberg made a complete crap of movie called "The Terminal" where everything was preposterous: the plot, the characters, the setting...
"Moscow does not believe it tears" is a charming human story, almost true, with a little touch of fantasy and fairy tale.
The actors seemed to age in the movie because make up was applied on them to make them look younger - after all 3 main characters were supposed to be in their 20s in the beginning.

I can translate it too, but won't either. MDNBIT was a terrific movie. The Terminal sucked IMHO.
I watch the movie from time to time to brush up on my *ahem* Russian.
<<I can translate it too, but won't either.>>
Then what was the reason to post this intentionally abusive fraise here?
Is this how you "brush up" on your Russian? Trust me, there are better ways to do that!

Here is a wonderful suggestion: Brush up on your spelling. fraise is spelled PHRASE and my nickname is "astymegoesby"
You are very new to IMDb, when you put in as much time and commitment as I, then you can pick apart my comments. Now, if you have nothing more constructive to say. I am closing this conversation. If you choose to bring it up again, I will report you to IMDb.

Translation (Russian) = Good bye

Rebyata, Davaiti zhit druzhno! :)
shareWhy split hairs over this? It was a bad choice of words, but the meaning was obvious.
or did those actors seem like they really aged?Well, the story does span quite a few years. Call it good/realistic movie making if you like share
LOL, do your homework!
The movie came out in 1979.
The lead was Katya, she was born in 1942 (do the math)
Next was Lyudmila, she was born in 1949 (again, do the math)
And a few others, Antonina was born in 1944, and the man Katya (at the end) fell in love with was born in 1928 NINETEEN TWENTY EIGHT. YEAH! They are all old :P~
The original poster suggested that the actors aged *during* the making, which in a way they did/were supposed to do as the story spanned many (over 20) years. I had no problem finding that aspect of their performances unbelievable.
shareWhat I noticed was that Katerina's voice definitely got much deeper and maybe that's why she appeared older as well. But I might be wrong.
shareI think it's a testament to the actors (especially Katerina), that they were able to envoke the mannerisms of 20-year olds as well as 40-year olds.
Great movie!

Just making and a different lighting during the two time periods.
It did a good job and movies are movies. You trick yourself and accept whatever you see is true just to enjoy the experience.
