Too Soon For Nostalgia...

Perhaps I'm the only one, but I find it bizarre that these are 2 movies from the '70s about the '60s. Regardless of what changed or didn't change between 1962 and 1973 and between 1969 and 1979 it just seems too recent. Especially in regards to the sequel, like try watching The Muppet Movie from 1979 or the TV shows from the early-'80s Taxi and Three's Company and telling me it was an entirely different era from 1969. Random examples but ones I'm very familiar with. And even if every single thing had changed which I don't believe, not nearly enough time had elapsed. It's not that hard to recreate a time setting when it was, like, yesterday. My only explanation is that some viewers in the '70s could still relate to aspects. Also from a technical viewpoint I think these were very ahead of their time. But still -- crazy.
