the 'Eastern Heroes' DVD

According to Amazon.co.uk, the (now out of print) Region 2 DVD from some company called 'Eastern Heroes' is in widescreen and has the original Chinese dialogue. I'm kind of sceptical of this, since this movie has apparently never gotten a decent DVD release anywhere else in the world (not even in China).

Can anybody who actually owns this DVD please let me know if this really is a good, widescreen DVD or if it's just another mislabelled, poor quality, fullscreen piece of crap?

The cover art looks like this:

Thanks!

The Hong Kong VCD (which I think is out of print now) is in widescreen and the print they used for it has much better colour and is generally less beaten up and choppy looking. So there is a decent-quality print of it out there somewhere. Someone just needs to put it on a DVD. If only Hong Kong Legends had the rights to this or something...

I got it on eBay for £0.25 and it is very bad quality. Basically it's obvious that Eastern Heroes used an old video transfer. Plus it's dubbed, no subtitles despite what they say.

Yep. I have it - it's cropped so as to look widescreen, and it's dubbed. Eastern Heroes went out of business for stuff like this. Good riddance to 'em!

there's a new malaysia-dvd from dragon jester.

plus:
- anamorphic 2.35:1
- best picture quality worldwide!

minus:
- they forgot the 16:9-correction, that means you need a 16:9 system to watch it right
- interlaced! (bad ntsc to pal transfer) (personally i dont mind that much)
- audio is terrible, only 2 cantose-remixes with new music and sounds (again i dont mind, cause i'm only watching it in german)

i enjoyed the dvd, since the picture is really good. even better than the OOP hk-dvd!

EDIT: ouch, saw the other thread, where scott already posts the details. well...

reply

well hey, the more word of mouth this dvd gets the better, anyhow :P
