What's up with Toecutter's death?

Why did his eyes pop out of his head right before he crashed into the truck? Don't get me wrong, the effect looks cool, but it came right out of nowhere.

I just saw it on netflix, and well to me it seems that the eyes poping out was an obvious sign oh s*** I'm dead. It was just some kind of effect no harm by it.

The movie is no longer on Netflix. My comment is from last year. It is longer available for streaming on Netflix, nor Amazon Prime.

Netflix rotates films in and out, keep your eyes peeled for it. It's been showing on Encore and it seems films from there rotate back into Netflix soon. Add to that the fact the new ones coming out there's a good chance it'll be put back up.

I notice on Twilight Zone where the eyes pop out. And the Toecutter I thought it was neat to see his leg lay in the middle of the road.

Miller seems to have a thing for this effect as he uses it in the Twilight Zone movie when John Lithgow sees the gremlin outside the plane window. However, I always thought it was hilarious.

He used that eye-bulging thing twice in Mad Max. During Toe Cutter's crash and a shorter, easy to miss shot of it at the beginng when the Night Rider crashes.

Also, one of Max's sudden flashbacks in Fury Road has the bulging eyes as well.

What I want to know is how Max didn't get run over by the truck too. He was right behind Toecutter and didn't have time to swerve away.
