love at first bite with original audio

Does anyone know if it is possible to get Love at First Bite on dvd with the original audio intact

reply

I wish it were possible.

DAMN!!!

I just watched the dvd version and the song in the disco was changed. Is that the only audio that changed? I want the original version too. Surely it must be available somehow, and why was it changed in the first place???

the song was a giant hit because of the movie or disco i'm not sure but they wanted more money for the vhs rights that wasn't met but there are early copys that have the right song it was later copys that had the change

reply

I assume it will never be restored due to copy rights. To me,this is a Movie travisty, as I LOVE this movie.Life is too short. The distributers need to get a clue!!!

At least they did not dub the Trailer so you see clips of how the dance went with the real music.

I have the VHS and its altered as well. My tip is to turn down the sound and play the original song as intended. It works.

Does anyone know why the audio was changed? I'd love to know. They apparently had rights to use it when the movie came out. I don't get it.

I bought this on DVD with a vague memory of it from long ago I didn't know it well enough to notice the change, so some YouTube clips really confused me, but completely explained why I kept seeing "I Love the Nightlife" in the end credits without ever remembering hearing it during the movie.

They apparently had rights to use it when the movie came out.

Having the rights for use in theatrical showings and having the rights to sell copies in a home video format are two very different things.

If the original licensing contract did not mention home video formats (and in 1979 I wouldn't expect that to be standard; home video was still virtually non-existent in terms of actually constituting a "market" that anybody would think about), then those rights are not included. If the rights holder and movie producers couldn't come to terms that were acceptable to both sides after home video releases became a worthwhile revenue stream, then the song couldn't be used. Or, if the rights holder decided, for some reason, to deny rights for home video at any price then there is nothing that the movie producers can do about it (and I know for a fact that there have been some such cases; though I know nothing specific about this particular case).

Check out Seasons 2-11 of Married with Children. The opening theme is not
Sinatras's "Love and Marriage" that was the opening theme for the TV program.
The first season DVD has the original but probably when the copyright holders
heard that they probably asked for an exorbitant amount of royalties so the
disc releasing company said "screw you" we'll just put in a generic opening theme song. This is probably what happened on "Love at First Bite". The
copyright holders were paid for the original song for the theatrical release
only. I remember when it was on HBO/Showtime the song was the original, but
on release of the VHS version the copyright holders wanted more because the
song would be played over and over as people watched the movie.

It still happens sometimes today. The original songs in some of the episodes of How I Met Your Mother are replaced on the DVDs. I was listening to the cast commentary on one episode and they were saying how it was a different song when it originally aired on TV.
Check out ioffer.com because I know I saw a DVD with the original soundtrack restored to Love at First Bite. This is a bootleg of course, but still... However, ioffer has products one day and the next they can be gone.

I don't know if you will ever get this, I see you posted your question several years ago. But, I happened to notice on Youtube that someone has created a video montage of scenes from the movie, set to I Love the Night Life, which was part of the original movie. Maybe you could do something similar, if it interests you? I am not up to the technical challenge, personally.
