What state are they camping in? (possible spoilers)

I am a bit confused about what state or territory of Australia they are camping in.
Several times the film features Tasmanian Devils and Koalas. I'm not completly sure but I was under the impression that there where no Tasmanian Devils living on mainland Australia.
Also the film opens in a crowded city that looks to large to be Hobart and the film itself was shot in Victoria (if I remember correctly).
So are the Tasmanian Devils just an erorr or does the film trully take place in Tasmania?

Just got back from a special screening of this film in Canberra!

Some bits were filmed in Victoria (you see the VIC number plates on the cars) but all the beach/camping scenes were filmed in Bega on the South Coast, only an hour and a half from Canberra.

Not sure about the Tassie devils. I did not think they existed on the mainland.

I just watched it with the commentary and it was primarily shot in Bega, with pick-ups done by the second unit in Tasmania for various wildlife shots such as the tasmanian devil and so on.

I just watched this movie for the first time 5 mins ago - classic!

Anyway the movie was shot in Bourna NP which is south of bega in NSW. The city was supposed to be Sydney and the camp/beach was supposed to be near Yamba which would be around 6-7 hrs from Sydney.

So there should ne no tassie devils. don't think koalas and dugongs are common there either. Plenty of log trucks though :)

The Tasmanian devils being on mainland Australia is now in the IMDb goofs section.
