Yep, the love of my life, never stop thinking about her. Tragically, distance and time were our greatest adversaries. She lived in Mexico City where I live but she returned to Paris. We met at a party, and my friends said she was way out of my league and to not even bother. She has these killer blue eyes and the best laugh. She was surrounded by guys desperately trying to win her attention and her ex-boyfriend was there as well. I spent the better part of that party out on the balcony getting drunk and telling jokes to her other friends. I think she was really intrigued as to why I wasn't drooling all over her like the rest of the herd. I am not a shy person but I really didn't show any interest because I knew she was only going to be in Mexico for school semester. We saw each other 2 weeks later at another party and she came up to me and we talked. I told her how much I loved Paris when I went with my parents. It also helped that I speak French. So was really impressed and she became more interested. I on the other hand was absolutely clueless about her feelings, and I didn't ask her out. We saw each other at a Wedding, we decided to sit at the same table because we really didn't know anybody there. I practiced my French and she practiced her Spanish. We danced with each other most of the night, and once again I didn't ask her out because I just couldn't get out of my head that she was leaving for Paris at the end of the term. What's the point? This is the part where I generally kick myslef in the ass. We went out one night with some mutual friends to a night club, we started dancing together and right there and then I couldn't help myself, she looked really beautiful that night... GO FOR IT...I planted her a kiss. The best part was she kissed me back. We saw each other after that everyday. It was Heaven for awhile at least. I was the envy of all my friends. Everybody kept asking me how did I manage to get a girl like that. Divine Justice! I would always respond, "A magician never reveals his secrets." The day she left to Paris, I hid in her luggage her Christmas gift with a very sappy romantic love letter telling her she means the world to me and I'm grateful we met. I had the most perfect good-bye kiss, the ones you see in a typical hollywood movie where the guy and the girl kissing with a million people looking around andeveryone clapping their hands. She cried. I waited till she left before I would shed a tear. And just like that... c'est fini.

Morale of the story: Don't listen to your friends and just go for it. no regrets.

bag77, have you been in touch with here since ?

We use to keep in touch regularly, now maybe we send an email once a month. We both knew that last day that it wouldn't last. I'm hoping to see her in September when I go to Paris. I expect her to be with somebody else. She's too beautiful to be by herself. In any case, one of 2 things would happen... it would give us the closure we both need or maybe who knows? I'll change zip codes. Funny thing, some friends of her are visiting Mexico City this week, so I hope to get the 411 on her situation. I'll let you know.

Not a foreigner, but I remember the summer when I was 16 on of the older kids in the neighborhood has his 14 year old cousin from Florida come stay for several weeks. I was shy but I introduced myself and we hit it off fairly well. We saw each other frequently during the time she was there and frequently got to hang out, without going an a date (and I didn't drive.) If she wouldn't have gone back to Florida, I could have easily seen us being boyfriend and girlfriend. 40 years later, I remember her name, but all I knew was that she was from Florida.

Yeah. Back in 1998 I found a Canadian on the internet. We met a year later and fell in love. It was long distance for the first few years of our relationship but we made it work... I think early on, during our daily chats (instant messaging), even before we ever talked on the phone, we both knew there was something there.

And my, how time does fly before you know it. It's been 14 years so far and we're still married. It's hard for me to completely grasp how long I've been so lucky for.

A lot of people say Canadians are just like Americans. Not exactly. Plus, the Eastern European blood is strong in mine. So if that counts, great. If not... 
