33 years after the death of Jesus?

The opening scene shows the text "33 A.D". Since AD (Anno Domini) starts from the end of his epoch, this would mean that the approximate 33 years commonly associated with the life of Jesus would not be included in either of the BC and the AD time scales. this movie takes place 33 years after Jesus' death???

'AD' is often mis-translated as 'After Death'. It actually starts with Jesus' birth, otherwise, what would you call the period of time between BC and AD?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anno_Domini

Jesus is purported to have lived for around 33 years, and the central conceit of the film of Brian's life mirroring and intertwining that of Jesus puts the date about right.

If you think about it, it's obviously not After Death. If BC is Before Christ, the date would change with his birth. If AD is After Death, then there'd be more than 3 decades that were neither BC or AD.

But Brian wasn't the Messiah though was he? He was just a very naughty boy!

Eee is.

A.D.: "Anno Domini" = "The Year of Our Lord"

c.33 A.D. would be when Jesus is being crucified.

Ace-Spade is correct.

Anno Domini means Year of the Lord. Traditionally the division between BC and AD is the Birth of Christ. Now, any scholar will tell you that the point Christ's birth is not precisely known. The actual date could be several years on either side. Ultimately it is not particularly important. For a Christian the important thing is Christ was born and started the new age. For a non-Christian it is simply a calendar point that has been agreed on by most.
