They all looked GOOD in this.
As it says in the trivia section: "The Pythons all seem to agree that they were at their peak with this film. They wrote in beautiful surroundings by the sea; Graham Chapman had finally dried out and no longer had the DTs, nor did he have to get sloshed to appear focused; there were no last-minute directorial changes as in "Holy Grail"; they filmed in a location with very agreeable weather (unlike "Holy Grail"); and they all feel that this was their best writing effort.)". I agree with that, I think they were at their peak. The writing was brilliant, the performances were wonderful, the movie looked beautiful, many stunning shots thanks to Gilliam's design and Jones' execution. But I also noticed that they all looked GOOD. Healthy, more or less fit, and happy. Very nice to watch.
Graham Chapman just looked like Michelangelo's David at the window, simple as that. He also was very impressive in Roman dress as Biggus Dickus. Michael Palin was quite appealing as that angelic centurion boxed in by those insane jailers. And I thought he was just plain sexy as that hopping ex-leper, but then he always was my favorite anyway. Eric Idle looked pretty as Loretta (I liked the long curly hair), and fairly fit on the cross at the end (as the cockney singer, not Mr Cheeky.) And again I liked his hair, there. John Cleese was a striking figure in his centurion costume, and even Terry Jones looked pretty good as the hermit (he'd obviously lost some weight.) I didn't forget Gilliam, I thought his mud-caked apocalyptic prophet was actually very effective. Better-looking than the lobotomized guard, anyway.
That's all I wanted to say. Watching the movie I couldn't help thinking how VITAL they all looked, and I'd never noticed it so much on the show or in the other movies. Well, a bit in Holy Grail, but mostly they looked like unhappy, half-drowned rats there. The fact that they were feeling happier while filming this certainly showed up onscreen, somehow.
