Horrible soundtrack

The movie could have been a lot better had it not been for the smarmy "uplifting" soundtrack that killed all suspense and atmosphere.

Usually the first thing I want to compliment in a film is the music. Not the case at all here. The "smarmy" '70s music felt laughably out of place and the traditional score is completely overbearing. The score is supposed to compliment the visuals, but in the instance it felt like a vicious battle between the two.

Most of the time the soundtrack fits the visuals/ atmosphere/ climate of a film so well I often don't take notice but here... horrible.
Especially when they are attempting to escape on horseback. I can understand what happened. The composer has been given the detail of a woman and a man galloping through the English country on horseback without it being preceded by: they were attempting to escape from a strange bunch of folk that has pretty much kidnapped them and some woman has died and they fear for their lives.

Have to disagree. It's a 70's movie so the music is 70's disco-ish stuff. It's meant to be upbeat and peppy because it represents the couple's happiness to escape, the power they have to survive. I thought it was refreshing to hear happy music signifying an "escape" from the evil, even though we all know they're trapped and not getting anywhere. Makes for a nice dichotomy.

^ LOL, there is ALWAYS at least one person who likes and defends crap. Always.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

Agreed. I thought it was hysterical. It felt like I was watching Somewhere In Time while they tried to escape on horseback.

reply

Agreed. I kept wondering what the Hell was up with having that kind of score.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

reply

Totally agree and I was thinking the same exact thing throughout the film. I'm like "It's supposed to be ominous not all "puppies and sunshine" !

The Legacy (1978) - 5 outta 10 stars

It could have been a deliberate attempt to make the movie creepier by contrasting the romantic soundtrack with the dark plot, but if it was, it didn't work.
